Kiev Fashion DaysDesigner Anna Karenina, who launched her career at 16, has grown up design-wise. In the past, her pieces have been rather young. Now 21, her Spring collection is mostly focused on eveningwear with a more adult touch. The dresses were indeed pretty. A body-hugging white number with flared pink sleeves and mesh ruffle that cut across the thigh was a standout, as was a red dress with tiered, layered ruffles at the waist. Amidst pieces like that, a mesh bodysuit with a waistband emblazoned withFront Row Onlyappeared try-hard, and an oversize denim jacket could have done without the superfluous embellishments on the arms.Karenina has future plans beyond designing. She is looking to disrupt the industry and introduce fashion coins, a concept similar to Bitcoin, that will allow consumers to purchase her looks using the currency. A novel concept, to be sure. She’s someone to keep an eye on.

At 21, Anna K designer Anna Karenina (formerly Kolomoets) is a bit of a mini celebrity in Ukraine. Her designs are worn by the It-girl daughters of famous Ukrainian and Russian pop stars, and Kris Jenner has sported a piece by the young designer. Also, the label is commercially important: Anna K has been sold in several international stores, including Lane Crawford and Colette, and Karenina has her own shop in Kiev’s newly erected TSUM department store, which is where she held her show.Pieces like trousers with asymmetrical ruffles, a black turtleneck withKiss Meemblazoned on the front, and a light pink silk robe dress were fun and well suited for her young customer base. Karenina, who just madeForbes’s “30 Under 30 Europe” list, has big plans to expand in the future. Keep an eye out.
