Earlier this yearAsger Juel Larsen’s studio was struck by a fire which destroyed his archive. That nightmare yielded an equally fiery rebirth though, a quietly Western-inflected, grungey Spring lineup, chock-full of bolo ties, studded flannels, and a gleefully tatty velour bowling shirt or two. Graphics are a staple of Larsen’s collections, and here there were plenty: big skull back patches, the wordsMelancholy is other people, and, most notably, a flaming logo. Larsen continues to be one of the city’s more exciting menswear designers; it’s clear that fire hasn’t slowed him down.
Asger Juel Larsenlaunched his eponymous line in 2010, and has since cemented himself as one of Denmark’s enfants terribles—and favorite menswear designers.Larsen took over the tony Hotel d'Angleterre to present Born Worn, his survivalist-hued Fall outing, which fairly brimmed over with cargo jackets, ponchos, and buffalo checks. If Bowie homages have become something of a token element at collections since the musician’s passing, then the designer’s tribute to Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister felt a welcome touch, from the live band’s cover of “Ace of Spades” down to an emblazoned sweatshirt (I don’t wanna live forever, with the date of Kilmister’s death) that referenced the same track.
