Outerwear label Ienki Ienki is big. This largeness pertains to more than just the XXL silhouettes, which are artfully cropped and nipped pillowy puffers reminiscent of the Michelin Man. (Its debut puffer coat was actually called the Michelin.) Businesswise, Ienki Ienki is growing. The less-than-two-year-old Kiev-based company created by Dmitriy Ievenko has become an international hit. According to Ievenko, its stockists have grown from 160 to 315 over the past year. In the United States, it is carried exclusively at Barneys New York. Recently, the brand has also made strides to show the product in a different format online. The Ienki Ienki website displays both still images and models wearing the clothes in motion.Ievenko is working to cultivate Ienki Ienki as a brand for the whole family. A fun fact: In addition to women’s and men’s, there is also a children’s line. Yes, those big engulfing puffers come in mini-me forms. One thing that isn’t available in an adult size is the children’s red onesie, which costs around $600. The prices are steep, but Ievenko notes that this is because each fabric is specially made for the label in Switzerland, even for the kids.Given its quick rise in popularity, the brand opted to show its voluminous coats at a presentation on the roof of its newly built showroom. Many of the pieces had a vintage feel thanks to unglossed cotton, like a red life-jacket coat with a rope in lieu of a belt. The most exciting development was that the jackets came with the introduction of prints. A camouflage coat looked like an abstract shaved poodle with its shrunken, smocked arms. (It’s cool.) A surprising win was a puffer that showed a version of a ’60s B-movie print, dotted with a yeti–meets–King Kong figure, a pinup blonde character, a bra, and a fruity drink. (It’s cheeky.) When it comes down to it, Ienki Ienki is fun, and while it is a serious brand, not all puffers need to be so monotone.
